List of Common Treadmill Problems And How to Fix Them Yourself
Let’s see the complete list of common treadmill problems that can become a hurdle during your workout.
Problem #1: Treadmill Display Not Working
One of the most common treadmill problems is that the display often doesn’t work. Sometimes, the treadmill machine’s display gets blank suddenly. The reason could be that the power cord is not plugged properly within the treadmill. Or, the button of the electrical motor is switched off. However, in the case of a battery operated the machine, the batteries can also be drained off, therefore, batteries should be checked appropriately time and again. Moreover, sometimes the issue gets resolved just by restarting or resetting the treadmill again.
Problem #2: Irregular Speed in Treadmill
It is always important to check the connection settings between the treadmill and the socket due to which the speed may become inconsistent. Make sure that the extensions or indirect connections may not be set-up in order to avoid this issue. It should always be plugged in directly. Ensure that the connectors are not worn out. Another reason for the erratic speed may be the corroded parts which need appropriate lubrication. You can know more about lubricating the treadmill in this article.
The treadmill belt needs to be lubricated properly to get better performance delivered. Also, check the pulley and the drive belt which may be loose due to which the speed drops. While fixing the issue it is important to find out whether the problem is mechanical or electrical.
Problem #3: Belt Slipping in Treadmill
Another common treadmill problem is that belt of the machine slips. Excess treadmill belt lubrication may cause the belt to slip. This may also occur when the belt is very tight. For an ideal workout, the belt may not be tight or loose. In order to avoid this problem, you should lift the belt from the middle adequately i.e. up to 2 to 3 inches. Lifting it higher tightens the belt therefore just remember the rule and go on.
Problem #4: Elevator Does Not Function in Treadmill
Sometimes the elevator stops functioning and this problem is usually caused due to a malfunctioned motor which may need to be repaired or replaced immediately. Moreover, the loosen connections may also cause this issue, therefore, make sure that the connections are tighter enough.
Problem #5: Burning Smell in Treadmill Machine
If you feel a rubber-like burning smell, immediately shut down the treadmill and plug it out as it may also cause a serious fire. It can be a short circuit or because of very high friction between the belt and the deck. It may also cause damage to the motor or the electronics. In this case, the treadmill may require a major or a minor motor repairing. That is another common treadmill problem that you can easily avoid by regular maintenance of the machine.
Problem #6: Heated Treadmill Belt
Another problem with most treadmill machines is that too much friction on the running belt can cause it to heat up. That’s why it is important to keep the treadmill machines lubricated at all times. It will limit the friction between the platform and belt. Usually most treadmill machines stop working when the friction increases to a certain point, because they are automatically set to power off. This may be the cause for the machine to stop working suddenly. Try to lubricate the belt to see if the problem is fixed. If that doesn’t solve the issue, you will have to replace the treadmill belt.
